Fentanyl Addiction
Fentanyl addiction leads to high overdose risk, severe dependency, respiratory issues, and devastating health consequences.
A synthetic opioid that’s 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine, fentanyl has led to tens of thousands of drug overdoses nationwide. Often prescribed by doctors for pain relief, fentanyl addiction can take hold very quickly. As it’s easier and cheaper to create than other opioids such as heroin, the nation is in the grip of a fentanyl epidemic. If you or someone you love has been abusing fentanyl, Arision can help you to detoxify safely, while developing an individualized treatment plan so you can develop the skills necessary to live your life how you want to.
Physical Effects of Fentanyl Addiction
Perhaps the most dangerous physical symptom of fentanyl, as well as other opioids, is called “respiratory depression.” That occurs when your lungs fail to sufficiently exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen. This can lead to any number of health complications, up to the point where your lungs could be depressed to the extent that you simply stop breathing. Other symptoms include:
- Confusion
- Nausea
- Low blood pressure and heart rate
- Constipation
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Fatigue
- Using more and more fentanyl to get high
- Inability to stop using
Waiting until symptoms worsen to get help is not a good idea. The sooner you contact Arision, the sooner we can help you to lay your burden down.
Behavioral Effects of Fentanyl Addiction
Perhaps the most common sign of fentanyl addiction is that you’re using fentanyl in a way that your doctor never prescribed to you. As soon as you cross that threshold, using it in another way, another amount, for another reason than a medical professional recommended, getting help is crucial. Other behavioral signs include:
- Poor hygiene
- Weight fluctuations
- Getting more fentanyl prescriptions from other doctors
- Poor performance at work or school, or failing to attend
- Continuing to abuse fentanyl even after suffering negative consequences.
Fentanyl withdrawal symptoms can be severe. If you’ve tried to stop and been unable to (or even to slow your use) we very well may be able to help.
